Khabib Nurmagomedov extended his undefeated professional record to 28-0 during the weekend's UFC 242. This after he defeated Dustin Poirier via submission, thus defending his lightweight belt for the second time.
However, not everyone was particularly impressed by Khabib's efforts at the gala that took place in Abu Dhabi. One of those who chose to criticize "The Eagle" afterwards is the top-ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson.
Ferguson believes that Khabib stood for a "lethargic" and "one-dimensional" effort against Poirier.
- SLOW AND ONE-DIMENSIONAL. I KNOW IT WAS VERY NERVES AND SO. KHABIB showed up, won the match, put pressure on Dustin and Dustin had no answer to that. BUT I SAID IT WAS SLOW. WE HAVE PREPARED US FOR THIS KILL (KHABIB) MORE TIMES. HE IS A GOOD FIGHTER BUT I KNOW HOW TO BREAK HIM, TONY FERGUSON SAYS TO ESPN'S ARIEL HELWANI.
Has been set - four times
Ferguson has a 15-1 record himself in the UFC lightweight division, and most now see him as the next natural contender for Khabib.
However, the UFC has tried to book the match earlier - no less than four (!) Times. However, various reasons, such as unforeseen injuries, have caused the meeting to be canceled at all times.
